Hill, Carnegie, Definiteness of Purpose

Napoleon Hill — esteemed author of Think and Grow Rich!, one of the best-selling books of all time — is pretty much the granddaddy of modern personal success and achievement literature. In this video, Hill speaks about his fateful meeting with Dale Carnegie, and recounts the story of the sealed envelopes each of us is given at birth: one labeled "Riches", the other "Penalties"...

Dev, Ops, DevOps... and Kanban?

Really enjoyed reading this juicy devops+kanban post from globe-trotting management consultant, David J. Anderson (@agilemanager)... here's a [juicy] excerpt!

"The DevOps movement appears to be striving towards the patterns in Systems Thinking expressed by W. Edwards Deming. It’s about respect and trust amongst individuals doing the work instead of management-driven command and control."

Didn't I say it was juicy?... it's organizational leadership p*rn for technology organizations!

On: Recharging

Some time back, Mel shared with me the DailyOm. My first reaction was "oy, not another daily newsletter", but I've since learned to love reading the messages. They've become a valuable mental tool in helping me to preserve a healthy perspective on all the craziness of life.

Here's an excerpt from recent Om that encourages us to take pause and carefully reflect on what is draining our energies whenever we are feeling run down, and [then] Recharging Your Batteries:

"In time, you might notice that the reasons you feel run down have less to do with how much you are doing and more to do with the fact that in your heart, you would rather be doing something else entirely. From now on, try and listen to what your heart really wants."

I liked it so much I edited down to a tweet =D.
